The
Kitchen Garden

In association
with North East Lincolnshire Councils allotments department
and Environworks of Barton upon Humber
we designed and constructed a full blown cottage style kitchen
garden in the middle of Weelsby road allotments in Grimsby.
The dedication
of the teachers and children from the school was evident from the
very start of the project and shown above you see the children on a
very cold December day excited about the prospect of having their
own kitchen garden.
Not only did
this project engage children, teachers and parents but it also had a
profound effect on the tenants already on the allotments who helped
the children in every way they could, even donating things for them
to grow.
The children
started with just a few basics, but by the middle of the summer all
sorts was growing in their garden. This is a benchmark scheme for
everybody involved and the benefits for the children are just
fantastic! |
