My design & construction process

Free Consultation

The first step is to arrange a visit which allows me to view your garden, discuss in detail your requirements and establish a budget for the design and the build (if required).

Garden Survey

Once we have agreed a work proposal I will survey your garden and take pictures to assist me in the design. Sometimes this is done on a different date to the consultation if I need more time to complete it.

Concept Plan

Now it starts to get exciting! This is when I return to see you with a concept drawing of your proposed new garden. This is when we can discus at length all my ideas and inspirations.

Final Plan & Planting

When you are happy with the concept I take it and finalize a plan with all the details needed for the build, planting plants, hardscape info and more.

Construction

As a designer I have a list of the best quality landscapers companies in the areas I work. They all have specialties in different areas and this gives me the strength to know that nothing is too complex and that the final result will not only be within your budget but also an unexpected level of service.

Aftercare & Maintenance

An aftercare package is available including maintenance weekly, monthly, and quarterly to suit your requirements. This can be agreed at any stage throughout and after the design and build process. I have a list of the finest gardeners and maintenance companies who I work closely with to ensure your garden stays in tip top condition throughout the year.

Portfolio

North Ferriby, front garden (Under Construction).

We have just started this project in North Ferriby, East Riding. We have removed everything including tall hedging and the stumps of old trees. Next the whole driveway is to be broken up and removed so we can re construct the whole front garden.

Walkington, Design & Build (Under Construction).

This is a garden I have designed and is currently under construction my Magic Garden Landscapes in Hull. The garden is 90m long and with this dynamic design its going to stand out with not only the structure but the planting which will be a mixture of meadow, evergreen and perennial.

South Kelsey, Design & Build (Under Construction).

This is my latest project and at 2 acres in total its going to be a fantastic garden with drifts of plants, columns of trees, a pond, deck and much more. The above pictures are of the start which is turfing the front and side garden. Watch this portfolio grow as we complete different areas of the garden.

Elloughton, East Riding of Yorkshire

This was a square garden with lots of shrubs that had been in the garden for 30 years. I reshaped the borders, cut shapes into the lawn and re-planted the garden with a mixture of evergreens, perennials, conifers, grasses and bulbs. These pictures have been taken at Christmas 2011, just wait for the garden to grow in 2012!

Bottesford, Nth Lincolnshire.

This garden was looking a little old after being the same was for the past 30 years. So a modern and fresh feel was needed. I have based the design on one large circular lawn with a circular seating area. I have used curves nicely to join the different areas and use of smaller edging blocks frames the areas nicely. At the customers request the planting is minimal and the gravel areas keep weeds from appearing.

North Ferriby, East Riding of Yorkshire.

This was an old garden of many levels unusable patios and strange planting. I took the space and added as much volume as possible. Lifting the crown on the trees allows their beauty to be shown as well as adding light to the garden. Split level patios one in full sun and the other in dappled shade give plenty of places to sit. Dealing with the split levels and using the wooden poles was easy and they work well in the overall scheme. Doggy windows in the fence allow "Pip and Meg" to look out of their area and into the main garden.

Skegness Sands Caravan Park, Lincolnshire.

In January 2011 I was asked to re design a large rockery at Skegness sands holiday park. I mixed perennials with conifers, grasses and evergreens to give all year round colour. Summer bedding plants always work by the sea and a mixture of these was introduced in May. Not forgetting the spring, many bulbs in drifts were also planted as these will show the residents that summer is on the way.

Waltham, Nth East Lincolnshire.

This was a great garden to design and build. The old garden had difficult to use decking and children's play equipment close to the house. I designed a large round edged patio of black slate to hold in the temperature. Block edgings were used to frame the patio and as an alternative to a fence or a wall rather nice contemporary wooden round poles were used to plant around. Paths leading down the garden take your view to the other side and a mixture of plants add colour to the scheme. A roof was constructed to cover the patio and this fitted in well with the overall patio design.

Bottesford, Nth Lincolnshire.

This front garden was looking the same as it did 30 years ago so a low maintenance alternative was designed. I wanted to keep a lawn for the lovely green colour and the fact that I can stripe it with my mower. Instead of just a round I have used the new sleeper edging as a break to make a semicircle then added a circle to the design. White and multi coloured gravel work well and this front garden has without a doubt turned heads.

Winterton, Nth Lincolnshire.

The client in this case gave me an already design and built landscape area but free of plants. So I took hold of all the areas and did what I do best and filled them with evergreens, perennials, grasses and conifers. It will take a few years for them all to grow into each other and make drifts of plants but it will all look great when it does. Strulch mulch was used all over the garden and even though its windy, it works well. I will post more picture as it all grows.

Barton upon Humber, Nth Lincolnshire.

This garden always had split levels but the upper level was unused and separated by rocks. Separating the garden with wooden treated poles I was able to push the garden back to just leave a raised planting area. the largest area in the corner was decked as it makes a very interesting contrast to the whole garden. Indian stone pavers and an edging to the lawn all matched very well. The summerhouse was moved from next the the house to the upper level and the whole garden French drained and re turfed to aid rain removal.

Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire.

This garden just needed cleaning up, leveling and a simply shaped lawn to add interest. Gravel over membrane and a simply grass and perennial planting scheme was needed for the edges. The client wanted a summery garden so orange painted fences look very summery as a backdrop.

Barton upon Humber, Nth Lincolnshire.

An unused corner of the garden just lends itself to becoming a lovely kitchen garden. A mini orangery provides enough room to grow almost anything and of course a place to sit and view the garden if you wish. Raised sleeper beds and surrounded in easy to maintain gravel and with the "no dig" top soil its a very easy way to grow your own.

Whitton, Nth Lincolnshire.

This garden was another that had already been built but with no planting scheme in place. The client wanted the garden to reflect the reed bed beyond but with much more colour. The plants were all planted through a membrane then a mixture of large green and blue slate was used as a mulch. This house and garden has a fabulous outlook over the river Humber and ships are not far away as they catch the tide up river.

Barton upon Humber, Nth Lincs.

See the evolution of this patch of soil next to the main house. Over the years the grasses, Phormium's, roses and lavender come into their own and this gravel garden with pond suddenly looks as if it has been there much longer than it actually has.

Nth Ferriby, East Riding.

If it was possible to smell the fragrance in this garden they you wouldn't leave this page! We planted many fragrant flowers and shrubs that make this garden what it is and with secret pathways leading in every direction what a wonderful garden this is to return and maintain.

Saxby all Saints, Nth Lincolnshire.

This is a small garden that was in need of a little sparkle. After separating the garden with trellis, removing some of the clump of conifers and re planting the garden the sparkle is restored making a humble cottage garden.

Cottingham, East Yorkshire.

This garden was a few years old and needed re designing from the front to the back. The lawns were all looking tired and planting needed to be much stronger. The completed result is a large round and usable patio in the sunny area of the garden, simple paving and clean edges with evergreen and perennial planting. The front garden was totally re designed with new lawn more edging and a flowing pathway to the rear.
