Low maintenance
gardening |

|
We all like the idea of a low
maintenance garden, but what many people
don't know is that you can have one
easily and it can include a hi colour
planting scheme for lots of interest all
year round.
Pictured above is a full colour planting
scheme planted through a membrane with a
slate topping. This planting is just six
weeks old and virtually maintenance
free!
Below is pictured a
low maintenance planting scheme that is
also through a membrane but because
of the trees and the leaves that
fall in the autumn its all mulched
with a thick layer of ornamental
bark. This is high year round colour
with a mixture of perennials and
bulbs for changes in spring and
summer.

Simply Gardening
Tips
Watering

When watering plants, make sure that they are given a really good drink. Just
giving them a small amount of water encourages the roots to develop closer
to the surface of the soil, making the plant less drought tolerant and more
susceptible to be rocked or blown over by the wind.

Listen to the sound
of the pots!

If you are
not sure how wet your compost is in terracotta pots, give the side of the
pot a "tap" with a broom handle.
If you hear a "Clonk" the
compost is wet enough, but if you hear a "Ring" the compost needs watering!
If you hear a smash, you have
hit it too hard!! |
