John's Bio

John Cavill is 43 years old and was born in Barton upon Humber, Nth Lincolnshire. He is a professional gardener and works on a daily basis gardening and maintaining large estate gardens amongst other things. John is a keen and passionate kitchen gardener he has grown all sorts of fruit and vegetables for customers as well as designing and constructing landscaping projects.

John owns and runs his own gardening business "Simply Gardening" who maintain gardens large and small across the Humberside area.

John is also Managing Director of "Simply Gardening for Schools" www.sg4s.co.uk which is a Cleethorpes based social enterprise who specialise in school gardening, teaching and more.

Finally John is ambassador for the "Send a Cow" charity for the Northern Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire area, teaching all about the ways in which vegetable growing in done in Africa and also raising money for the charity to do more work in Africa.

John Started his working life and New Holland Dock working in shipping and general cargo import, which included steel, timber, grass pellets, coal, fertilizer and much more.

Working from the bottom upwards John learned all the was to know about shipping, ships agency and more.

UCM Timber

John then moved to UCM Timber where his office was in the Maltings in Hull and looked over the Hull New Theatre. John worked as international sales manager, selling timber on behalf of sawmills in Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Slovakia, Czech republic and Germany to timber importers and merchants in the UK.

John moved from Hull to Maidstone in Kent where he worked for the first time in the landscape industry as a landscape designer in all the home counties including Essex, Kent, Sussex and London.

Village Green Landscaping

Village green landscaping were based in brough, East Riding of Yorkshire. They designed built and maintained fabulous projects from small patios to full blown garden makeovers.

B&Q Stoneferry, Hull.

John worked as store manager for B&Q in Hull as well as running their garden centre. This gave john vital experience in the top level retail trade for this very busy east Hull store.

A1 Landscaping and Design

John moved from Hull to Peterborough to work as contracts manager and designer for this very busy commercial landscaper.

From Peterborough John moved to Salisbury in Wiltshire and worked as contracts manager and designer which covered most of the ministry of defence bases throughout three counties. Its while working for Bawden Landscaping that John realised he should be working for himself and this is when Simply Gardening was born.

John did work experience with Peter Calamatta Landscaping in Malta. You could be forgiven to think that Malta doesn't have any landscaping but you would be surprised, Calamatta are the top landscaping company on this island doing all sorts of projects.

Atlantic Landscapes - Delaware, USA

John worked in Wilmington, Delaware for private clients and commercial like MBNA bank and DuPont. It was hot here in the summer at 100degrees and 100% humidity but to learn all about the American Landscape market proved invaluable.
